BIG PLANS: CREATIVE WORKSHOP
The workshop will focus on the key pillars of creating short dance films.
Participants will go through the process of choosing location, framing, music, costume, and movement. We will then attempt to bring these elements together into a final outcome that harmonizes with each participant’s creative choices.
Before we get to practice, we’ll go through a theoretical phase: analysis, discussion, and experimentation, allowing us to become familiar with each tool. Moving into the practical stage, we’ll observe how these tools function in real time, and explore how they may need to be adapted depending on the external factors we encounter.
Choice is the operative word here—each situation demands a reassessment of what takes priority. Depending on the needs of the piece we are creating, we may need to shift focus from one tool to another.
We will learn to adapt movement and music, location and costume, in combination with light, to serve the imagined final result.
The ultimate goal is to condense information into the span of one minute, and to express a state, question, or concern through the combination of the creative pillars we explored.
