“The Forest Riddle” – A Performance inspired by Kalamata’s natural landscape
For the first time, the Kalamata International Dance Festival is commissioning the development of a work inspired by the Taygetus Forest and the unique topography of Messinia. This interdisciplinary project is a collaboration between choreographer and performer Nancy Stamatopoulou and photographer Tasos Vrettos, extending the dialogue between visual and performing arts.
The concept of this performance originated as a work-in-progress during the “Forest Riddle” exhibition (curated by Nadia Argyropoulou and Giorgos Tzirtzilakis, 9-11/2023). In this fully developed version, the artists will explore and integrate elements from the forest of Taygetus, Messinia’s natural terrain, and traces imprinted by history on the region’s landscape.
Nancy Stamatopoulou and Tasos Vrettos bring the imagery of the forest to life, inviting audiences to reflect on what lies beyond the human realm and on our primal relationship with nature.
