KALAMATA DANCE MEGARON – ALTERNATIVE STAGE
A User’s Manual is a solo lecture-performance that serves as a guide to understanding the often unseen complexities of dance creation. In this piece, the choreographer shares behind-the-scenes insights into the making of a dance performance, revealing how pressures from the market, budget constraints, and tendencies of festival agendas affect the creator. These factors that often remain hidden, significantly influence the artistic process.
What we witness on stage is not solely the result of the artist’s independent creative choices; rather, it is shaped by financial considerations, marketing demands, copyright requirements, public expectations, and academic influences.
A User’s Manual examines the recent shifts in the labour of artists and invites the audience to reconsider their perceptions and engage with the complexities of artistic practice.
