ONE BODY

The National School of Dance (KSOT), the main public institution for dance education in Greece, was founded in 1937 by Koula Pratsika and, since 1976, has operated as a state institution of higher artistic education under the supervision of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture.Over the decades, the School has developed a strong educational framework in which the techniques of classical and contemporary dance intersect with choreographic research and stage practice. Its students are trained not only as dancers but also as choreographers, through a system that integrates technique, repertoire, improvisation, and theoretical thinking.

The School’s activities include the regular production of performances, which function as an extension of the educational process, while at the same time—combined with public presentations, workshops, and collaborations with other artistic organisations—transforming the School into an active hub of the contemporary dance scene.

In today’s transitional landscape of arts education, and in view of the planned launch of the academic operation of the Higher School of Performing Arts (ASPT) within the next two years, KSOT stands as a historical touchstone and institutional forerunner of university-level dance education in Greece
