Artistic note
Dear friends,
We are pleased to welcome you to the 26th edition of the Kalamata International Dance Festival, which takes place in the midst of an unprecedented global situation. We are very honoured by your presence given the circumstances and are filled with courage and optimism for the future.
Some festivals are held not only to promote an art but also to respond to the need of the historical moment. This year’s Kalamata Dance Festival is here, now, to make a point about questions that are crucial for everyone. Questions concerning our relationship with Nature, with the Self, and with the Other. Questions concerning the need to listen to fundamental and true human needs.
This year’s Festival aims to communicate to the whole world that we must in every way keep our relationship with art alive and especially the art of dance, which is entirely based on human contact and the human body.
In many parts of the world theaters, museums, concert halls, and other places of art and culture remain shut. However, we do not make art
for art’s sake. Every work of art is a call. It is directed to all and each one individually. Every work of art is based on our interaction. Your presence gives our work substance.
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for responding to our call and for being here today.
For our part, we will do what we know best. We will tell stories in which we hope you recognize something of yourself.
