Performances Dance in the city
The Greek National Opera Professional Dance School, under the artistic supervision of its Director of Studies, Yorghos Matskaris, presents the performance Epilogue, a demanding contemporary dance diptych featuring the choreographic works Dive by Edouard Hue and Skipping on Stardust by Ermira Goro.
This is a collaboration between the Festival and the Greek National Opera Professional Dance School. It’s an initiative designed to connect future professional dancers with the current artistic landscape, giving them a platform to be seen, to learn, and to become part of the dance community, while also gaining experiences and memories that will support them on their future path.
By presenting these works at the Kalamata International Dance Festival, as part of the “Dance in the City” program, the city is infused with the young students’ joy, strength, and passion for their craft.
EDOUARD HUE
DIVE [20′]
Instinct is the driving force behind Edouard Hue’s creations. This innate and powerful tendency, shared by all living beings, is as enigmatic as it is natural. It is a primal sensation, ever-present, shaping our actions beyond conscious control. To Hue, instinct is a generator of emotions and sensations—an invisible force guiding us through life. But what is it, really?
Dive floods the stage with a choreographic wave drawn from the raw instincts of the choreographer and performers. The work is a deep exploration of intuition—its origins, its triggers, and its influence on our choices.
The dancers engage in a visceral, relentless questioning of existence, amplifying the work’s raw and virtuosic movement.
For the GNO Dance School, Edouard Hue reconstructs an excerpt from the second act of Dive, the piece’s most visceral expression of instinct. Here, movement is stripped to its essence—shaped by urgency, impulse, and necessity. In this moment, the performers reveal the raw process of creation, exposing a dance that is both intimate and electrifying.
After various independent projects, Hue returns to the essence of his choreographic language with Dive, immersing audiences in a seamless flow of emotions. A powerful and hypnotic experience, this work takes spectators on an intimate yet unrestrained journey into the depths of instinct.
ERMIRA GORO
SKIPPING ON STARDUST [15′]
A choreographic composition where movement becomes a living dialogue between body, space, and emotion. The dancers craft images that at times flow gently and at others erupt, forming a dialogue between light and shadow, tension and stillness. This is a performance that does not follow a linear narrative but unfolds like a bodily poem—open to interpretation.
