KALAMATA DANCE MEGARON – ALTERNATIVE STAGE

Description

Lunar Seaga emerges from the dark, dystopian industrial landscapes that we often encounter in suburban areas as well as within the cities themselves. These are the geographical locations where industry encroaches upon the natural environment, creating an otherworldly, hybrid ecosystem in which human activity and the exploitation of natural resources leave an indelible environmental footprint.

White tarps soaked in cement dust, shiny debris rattling deafeningly in the strong wind, lights appearing from cargo ships and trucks reflected and distorted on the polluted sea, and a bright moon arising amidst the foul-smelling fumes of the refineries, are summoned and transformed into scenic elements that compose a paradoxical action-transition, as an ideal setting for the unfolding of a revelatory dive with strong elements of science fiction.

In these sites during nighttime, the bodies confront darkness and as they carry the light, they activate the space, reveal unfamiliar textures, and encounter obstacles that shape movement through the lens of a world exposed to intense natural phenomena.

Our research identifies these landscapes of paradoxical coexistence with humans as capable of stimulating imagination and attracting the unknown, as an absurd getaway from a modern world that is progressing towards self-annihilation.

The work premiered in June 2025 at the historic Old Oil Mill Factory of Elefsina, within the framework of Eleusis 2023 – European Capital of Culture. It was developed through the programme U(R)TOPIAS Academy of Choreography, under the artistic direction of Patricia Apergi and the Aerites Dance Company. It continued evolving thanks to the artistic residency of the 15th Dance Days Chania International Contemporary Dance Festival and was successfully presented at the outdoor space of the former French School of Chania in August of the same year.
