The wish to be completely surrounded and feel at one with the other, while choosing to ignore the objective reality of the outside world and avoid all confrontation. From a certain perspective, this might be perceived as a warm, deeply human behaviour, one that brings us into harmony with others and allows us to rely on them. From another point of view, it might appear to encourage self-indulgence, dependence and control. How far can this need take us before love turns into hurt, before care becomes obsession and before support devolves into control?
